End of the piston age for 800 NAS – the Seafire FR.47
So, I want to make models of everything 800 Naval Air Squadron has flown. What, exactly, did it have?
As far as I am aware, the list is as follows:
- Hawker Nimrod (possibly the Mk.1 – I hope so because that’s easier than the Mk.2)
- Hawker Osprey (I think mainly Mk.2)
- Fairey Fulmar Mk.1
- Fairey Fulmar Mk NF 2
- Blackburn Skua
- Blackburn Roc
- Sea Gladiator (just the two of them, but still counts)
- Sea Hurricane (definitely the Mk.II but possibly also the Ic)
- Grumman Hellcat I (Europe, incl. D-Day)
- Grumman Hellcat II (Pacific)
- Supermarine Seafire XVII
- Supermarine Seafire FR.47
- Supermarine Attacker
- Hawker Sea Hawk
- Supermarine Scimitar
- Blackburn Buccaneer S.1
- Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer S.2
- British Aerospace Sea Harrier FRS.1 (Falklands)
- British Aerospace Sea Harrier FA.2
- British Aerospace Harrier GR.9
I think there were three versions of the Sea Hawk and probably more than one of the Scimitar but I’ll look into it some more and see if there are noticeable differences in designs/markings. Might be a good excuse to do kits with and without wings folded, I suppose.
I have the Sea Hurricane and both Hellcats on order.
